The Museum District is home to colorful townhouses with early 20th-century architecture, elegant brick-row homes, and arguably the most renowned museum in Richmond itself – the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA). If you ever get tired of exploring the endless streets and businesses in this district (which we doubt!), stop in and see the world’s largest public collection of Fabergé eggs outside of Russia, original Picasso paintings, and once-in-a-lifetime rotating exhibits at the VMFA.
The Museum District doesn’t get its name simply due to the cultural institutions, the neighborhood itself is a work of art fit for a gallery. Old Victorian houses are on constant display, some even dating back over 100 years. All houses here have to meet a certain standard of code as a lot of them are historically protected and require specific maintenance.
